Dr Simon Moore – Oral Pathology / Oral Medicine – BDS (Adel), MDS (Adel)

 

Dr Moore is a registered dental specialist holding dual registration with the Australian Dental Board for Oral Pathology and Oral Medicine.

Dr Moore graduated from the University of Adelaide with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery degree in 1986 and then served as a Special Service Officer (SSO Dental) with the Australian Army. 

After returning to the University of Adelaide to undertake postgraduate study Dr Moore received his MDS (Oral Pathology) in 1999.

With a passion for teaching Simon became a Lecturer and Senior Clinical Supervisor for fourth and fifth year undergraduate students within the fields of Oral Diagnosis, Dental Radiology and Oral Pathology at the Adelaide Dental School. Furthering his passion for education Simon has more recently addressed a variety of local study clubs in Brisbane. In addition to encouraging life-long education Simon is an active member of the community, attempting to help those less fortunate than himself. Helping to establish an Aboriginal Dental Clinic in country NSW in addition to being involved in clinical supervision and educational programs within East Timor and Cambodia.

In 2004 Simon moved his family to Brisbane and commenced his private practice as a specialist within clinical Oral Pathology and Oral Medicine. He is a ‘fellow‘ of the Oral Medicine Academy of Australasia and a member of the Australian Dental Association.

Simon holds dual registration with the Australian Dental Board as a registered specialist within the fields of Oral Medicine and Oral Pathology.

What Does Oral Medicine And Oral Pathology Encompass?

 

The specialist fields of Oral Pathology and Oral Medicine encompass the assessment, diagnosis and mostly non-surgical management of the conditions affecting, the jaws, adjacent anatomical structures and oral mucosa. In addition to assisting patients with systemic disease management that may result in orofacial ailments.

As such the identification and management of oral mucosal conditions, including pre-malignant and malignant oral disease is central to Dr Moore’s clinical practice. A broad summary of the various areas covered would include:

  • Red, White and Pigmented – lesions.
  • Blisters and Ulcers eg. recurrent aphthous ulceration, pemphigoid and pemphigus.
  • Oral manifestations of systemic disease eg. lupus erythematosus, Lichen Planus, celiac disease and inflammatory bowel disease.
  • Salivary gland hypofunction and xerostomia eg. Drug related or post-radiotherapy.
  • Other salivary gland pathology eg. mucoceles, sialoliths or sialadenitis.
  • Orofacial pain eg. Trigeminal neuralgia, neuropathic pain or burning mouth syndrome.
  • Oral Mucosal Infections eg. candidiasis or human herpes viral infections
  • Papillomas, epulides and Polyps.
  • Assessment and management of the oral complications of haematological malignancy including oral graft versus host disease in haematopoietic stem-cell transplant recipients.
  • Oral related complications of head and neck cancer treatment.
  • Management of oral sequelae of chemotherapy and radiotherapy .
  • Organising and coordinating dental treatment for patients with complex systemic medical conditions, including hereditary,acquired coagulopathies and organ transplant recipients.
